The Supreme court through the Chief Justice on Thursday quashed the ban order on the film “Padmaavat” declared by 4 BJP-ruled states, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and said that its conscience is shocked to see that these states have guillotined creative rights.“Creative freedom, freedom of speech and expression can’t be guillotined… artistic freedom has to be protected,” the bench said on Thursday.

States now adopt a wait and watch policy

These states which were bragging till the judgement went totally against their ban are still defiant. They still are talking about honour and the people’s sentiment which will be hurt by the film.

Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh, who had earlier warned that anyone who even plays the Ghoomar song should be reported to police, said on Thursday that the government will take a decision “as per the court order and after a review of law and order”.

Meanwhile the Karni sena miscreants continue with their rampaging tactics all over these places, behaving like vigilante armies. The final result: no theatre in these states will dare to show the film when it is released on January 25th. So the “virtual ban” continues inspite of the Supreme court order.
