The BJP has stood out from the rest of the national parties in their consistent interference with the education modalities, that have been painstakingly planned by eminent educationists and historians. Their rewriting of textbooks and the exclusion of political figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru is well known since the days of Vajpayee.

Inspite of the criticism from few circles, their efforts have been consistent and persistent. But now they have gained an authority over the institutions of higher education which is almost total. Most of the vice-chancellors of these universities are now handpicked by the BJP and they sing the tune of their ideology. It must be remembered that as part of the Dussehra celebrations in Nagpur by RSS, Mohun Bhagwat invited all these Vice-chancellors and almost all attended the same.

This year, universities were also told to celebrate the birth centenary of Deen Dayal Upadhaya, a member of the Rashtriya Swaymsevak Sangh and a leader of the Jan Sangh. And yesterday they celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
