Eleven students have been denied bail by the CJM court in Lucknow, which said their crime was of “serious nature” and are made to languish in the prison as criminals. What was their so called serious crime? They organised a protest during the Chief Minister’s visit to the university and were arrested by the police while they were waving black flags and allegedly blocking the CM’s convoy.

Is any kind of peaceful protest also banned in the country? Uttar Pradesh, since the victory of BJP and the ascent of the Hindutva-proponent Yogi Adityanath as CM has seen many improbables but this attitude towards young students in Lucknow university beats everything else.

Out of the 111 students, 2 are girls. Out of these 8 were suspended from the university. The names of suspended students are: Satwant Singh, Nitin Raj, Pooja Shukla, Anil Kumar Yadav, Ankit Kumar Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Madhurya Singh and Apoorva Verma.

Meanwhile a huge gathering of students from Delhi university, Jawaharlal Nehru university and Jamia Millia open university protested in front of the UP Bhavan in Delhi asking for both the release and cancellation of suspension of these students.

The students have approached the Governor of UP to sort out the matter and release their colleagues in prison.
