Four dead and many injured in London attack

At 14.40 GMT on Wednesday, a single attacker drove a grey Hyundai I40 along a pavement over Westminster Bridge, near the Houses of Parliament in central London, killing four people and injuring many.The car crashed into railings outside the Houses of Parliament.

The attacker, armed with a knife, ran to Parliament and was confronted by a policeman, PC Keith Palmer – who was not armed and was subsequently stabbed and killed. The dead include a woman who is mother of two children.

Attacker was British born

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “My message to those that want to harm us and destroy our way of life is: You won’t succeed; you won’t divide us; we won’t be cowed by terrorists.”

The British Premier, Theresa May said in the House of Commons that it was a “sick and depraved” attack on the heart of the capital. Such attempts to defeat UK values were “doomed to failure”, she said. She also added: “The location of this attack was no accident. The terrorist chose to strike at the heart of our capital city where people of all nationalities, religions and cultures come together to celebrate the values of liberty, democracy and freedom of speech.”

The name of the attacker has not been revealed so far but sources believe that he was British born, whose identity is known to police.

Police make multiple arrests

On Thursday morning Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of Counter-terrorism Mark Rowley revealed that police had raided six addresses and made seven arrests as part of their investigation, which covered London, Birmingham and other places. The number of arrests was later updated to eight.
