After winning stunning victories in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, BJP and its star campaigner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now acquired an aura of invincibility. Chants of ‘Har Har Modi ‘ are resounding in BJP headquarters in Lucknow and Delhi. Massive road shows are now on at this very time and the festival of Holi too has coincided with the victory.

Modi in eternal ‘campaign mode’

All said and done, there is no doubt that Modi has always been on campaign mode since becoming Prime Minister in 2014 and always will be. From today his eyes will be fixed on 2019 and before that it will be the Gujarat assembly elections, early next year. No wonder that he went straight to Gujarat from Varanasi , where he had campaigned non-stop for 3 days. It is also important here to note that ‘The post of prime minister and the vast powers of the Union government has been used to push his political appeal during elections.’

BJP’s vote share in the UP 39.7%

Apart from the massive victory in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP wrested Uttarakhand from the Congress. The two are neck-and-neck in Manipur and Goa where smaller parties will now hold the balance of power. The only consolation for the Congress was Punjab.

It remains to be seen how these electoral gains are converted into actual work on the ground. People may now want to actually experience the ‘acche din’ promise.
