The controversial DIG of Bastar since 2010 , Kalluri has been “forced” to go on medical leave just as heat was mounting up and he was being summoned by courts to answer for the numerous cases of human rights violations against him.

P Sundar Raj was appointed DIG Dantewada range, Bastar.

Medical reasons cited earlier to escape courts

Last November, Kalluri was issued stinging summons by the NHRC in the case of a murder FIR against activists Nandini Sundar and Archana Vijay. He, however, failed to appear before the commission citing medical complications. Kalluri was “seriously unwell” and was referred to a hospital in Visakhapatnam.

“Due to health reasons, IG Bastar SRP Kalluri applied for leave which was sanctioned by the government,” Subodh Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister’s Office clarified.

Now that the National human rights commission has summoned him to answer the mass violations by police in Bastar, things were getting too difficult for him.

Accused of threatening journalists and professors

The Chhattisgarh Police under him had named Delhi university professor,Nandini Sundar and 10 others as accused in the murder of tribal Somnath Baghel in Sukma district.

During the peak of the student agitation at JNU Delhi, Kalluri claimed that the attack on tribal activist Soni Sori was a “conspiracy” and JNU student Umar Khalid could be part of the plot.

The latest episode involved Bela Bhatia. When activists defended her and sent messages in support, they allegedly received threatening replies from Kalluri saying that “dogs like them will be stoned out of Bastar.”
