Trump’s latest executive order came on Friday and bars immigration from seven Muslim countries (Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen), although the list is likely to grow. Overnight people from these countries who had valid green card visas were detained in American airports.

More than 2,000 protesters spent a freezing Saturday at the Terminal 4 Arrivals at New York’s Kennedy International Airport, chanting: “Let them in!” and “Love not hate, makes America great!” and “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here!” The protests were also held in many other airports across America.

The American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU) stepped in and deportation has been temporarily halted by bringing a stay order. Less than 24 hours into the ban, Homeland Security said that at least 109 travellers had been denied entry into the US in total and that it would “comply with judicial orders” but that Trump’s order remains in place.

Welcome to Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reacted to Trump’s orders with a decidedly different approach.”To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada,” he tweeted, along with a photograph of him greeting a Syrian child at a Toronto airport.
