Chandoo Mondeti-directed Telugu film Premam has hit the theaters today. The original went on to become a blockbuster hit and so the expectations are high on it’s Telugu remake. The film features Naga Chaitanya in the lead with Shruti Haasan, Anupama Parameswaran and Madonna Sebastian.
Premam narrates the love affairs of George David from his pre-degree days, portraying the varying grip of a man over love and life. It protrays three stages of romance in Vikram’s life with three different women.
Naga Chaitanya, who is trying hard to go next level in his career, comes up with an understand and mature performance. He seems to be getting better with each film and does his part with ease. He puts up convincible performance in the three roles. The first role he played could be better but he has shown superb variation between the other two phases. All the three heroines have performed well and share a great chemistry with Chaitu. Everyone including Praveen and Bhramhaji have done justice to their roles. A couple of songs stand out in the music. The cinematography and technical finesse are an asset.
With an engaging narration and good story, Premam rarely gives you time to get distracted. The camera work is include the highlights of the film. The comedy scenes involving Praveen and others will leave you in splits. But the major concern of the movie is it’s slow narration. The makers have not changed the theme of the story but some changes were made to suit the nativity of Telugu audience. The second half slowed down and dragged a bit. Editing also could have been better and the scenes could have been chopped up in second half to make the movie crisp. Shruthi Haasan could have been showcased in a better way. Some good romantic songs, romantic narration and many feel-good moments will surely entertain the audience.
Overall, its’s a perfect remake without any spoiler.
